Ownership tip

With a base price nether $30,000 and probable some incentives equally well, the 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid S can be a frugal buyer'southward sweet deal—but lookout man out for those options, considering they can crusade the price to soar.

4-Door Sedan S Hybrid FWD

4-Door Sedan SE AWD

The 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid combines high gas mileage and a quiet ride with one of the best-looking family unit-sedan bodies.

The 2016 Ford Fusion manages to show that good, space-efficient design tin can also be very good-looking. This mainstream mid-size sedan manages to be comfortable, spacious, and very well-equipped, and fifty-fifty though information technology'due south no longer a new design it's still one of the most bonny in its grade.

In profile, stance, and details, the 2016 Fusion remains one of the most attractive models in its class. It's handsome and athletic, supremely comfortable, and packed with technology. We named it our 2013 Best Machine to Buy, when this current generation of the Fusion was released, and it continues to be one of our all-time-rated vehicles here, not counting luxury marques.

The 178-horsepower, ii.five-liter inline-4, doesn't come up close to performing also as the rakish design suggests, but information technology's adequate with the 6-speed automated. And on the other end, there'due south the 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-4, which makes 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and doesn't leave usa missing a V-6. In the middle is a 1.5-liter turbo-four, coupled to an automated manual; that'due south even so a nice-driving powertrain that should deliver great real-world mileage. And covered by split up reviews elsewhere, there's the especially fuel-efficient (still notwithstanding responsive-driving) Fusion Hybrid and its plug-in version, the Fusion Free energy—both of which earn more than 40 mpg in EPA combined driving.

Review continues below

In all of its versions, the Fusion has some truly top-notch ride and handling, with well-tuned steering and a taut yet absorbent experience, it has firm, flat, reassuring cornering that's not to the detriment of ride quality, combined with a nimble, eager feeling that's missing from almost mid-size sedans.

The Fusion has an interior that lends a feeling of quality, with good materials everywhere you expect (and feel), great noise damping and vibration quelling, and satisfying sounds as yous open and shut doors. It's a little longer overall than earlier, with a much longer wheelbase, which adds up to ameliorate legroom all effectually. Thinner and firmer front seats also assistance bring a lot more dorsum-seat space; and fifty-fifty the base manual front seats are quite comfortable and supportive. Provided you avoid the sunroof, caput room is keen, and at that place's ample storage infinite effectually the center stack and doors.

The 2016 Ford Fusion has very skilful—albeit not quite top-tier—ratings from both U.S. safety agencies, every bit well as a reasonably good set up of standard features and rubber options. Although a few safety items to stand out here—including the innovative inflatable rear seatbelt system that's been offered on some of Ford'south crossovers.

Pricing for the Fusion is almost like that of a premium-brand model—every bit you lot can add together a rather bourgeois number of items, including the moonroof, navigation, upgraded wheels, and the safety-tech items and stop up with a sticker price around $40,000. That said, we think the Fusion is at its best value in SE trim, where you lot can end up with a reasonably well-equipped model for closer to $30,000.

For 2016 in that location'south a new S Appearance Package that lets you wearing apparel up the base model with 18-inch alloy painted Ebony black wheels, front fog lamps, and a rear spoiler. Additionally, a new Cold Weather package brings remote starting time, heated cloth seats, and floor mats to the SE.

A 2.five-liter iv-cylinder engine is the base powerplant for the Fusion South and SE. It's paired with a half-dozen-speed automated, and generates fuel economy figures of 22 mpg urban center, 34 highway, 26 combined, according to the EPA. You'll probably do quite a bit meliorate in existent-world driving with the 1.five-liter turbo-4, also paired with an automated. Gas mileage is rated at 24/36/28 mpg—or 25/37/29 mpg when equipped with engine terminate-start.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid are the fuel economic system champs for Fusion, which we've covered elsewhere.

The 2016 Ford Fusion is sporty and graceful, with a neat, focused motel design.

The electric current generation of the Ford Fusion is no fresh entry in its blueprint, as information technology's been on the market already for four years; all the same it somehow manages to be one of the most stylish, head-turning models in the grade.

The 2016 Fusion remains one of the most bonny models among mid-size sedans, and that holds true within or out, and whether talking about overarching blueprint themes, styling, or upward-close blueprint details.

From the nose on, to use the discussion "bold" here is no exaggeration; the hexagonal grille bends and bevels betwixt headlamps and foglamps in a way that's half-Aston, one-half-Hyundai. The gently arched roofline looks a flake like that of the Audi A7 from the rear angles, and its LED taillights help punctuate that. Withal from the side view, information technology's all Ford, with the details somehow adding upward to a greater sense of the blended's identity.

Have a step back, and the Fusion has a nifty sense of stance and proportion; as with the Mazda 6, the Fusion has a low-to-the-route presence that holds from almost any bending.

Inside, it'south sleek and functional, and front and center Ford has revamped its middle stack of controls to conform the new Sync screen and controls—introducing a few more mechanical buttons along the style. Nosotros similar how information technology takes a pace away from the super-angular, more pinched look of the Focus and Fiesta interior, instead framing the center stack of controls in a elementary metal ring that leaves a potent graphic imprint on the cabin. It's a hitting effect, with obvious influences from Volvo, including the storage bin under the climate controls, open up at the sides.

Fifty-fifty on lesser models, there's a small LCD screen for radio and SYNC displays, flanked past a small battalion of difficult buttons. Information technology is undersized for the allotted infinite but it doesn't seem completely out of place. Our primary complaint inside is the use of gloss black plastic on the dash and door console armrests; information technology's prone to scratch and swirl, and doesn't look as good after merely a few g miles as it does before a single utilise.

Appearance-wise, Ford has added a few more appearance options for the Fusion lineup. Final year a Terra Cotta interior packet became available on SE and Titanium models, calculation rich, ruby-red leather to the seats and door panels, equally well equally premium flooring mats and upgraded 18-inch wheels. And for 2016, the Fusion gets a new Southward appearance package, with painted Ebony black wheels, front fog lamps, and a rear spoiler.

Review continues beneath

The Fusion is purposeful simply non punishing in its ride, with taut handling and turbocharged ability leaving trivial to be desired.

Mayhap outside of the Mazda 6, and possibly some versions of the current Honda Accordance, the Ford Fusion is the best-driving of the mid-size sedans. In it, a great lineup of turbocharged 4-cylinder engines bring responsive acceleration with respectable fuel economy, while Ford's conspicuously tapped into its European-marketplace expertise in giving the Fusion a very sophisticated set of ride-and-handling attributes.

There's i exception to that. The base of operations-level engine in the Fusion is a 178-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-four, and it doesn't come up close to performing as well as the rakish design suggests. It does well enough with the 6-speed automatic, but you'll be downshifting more than you might think as the engine doesn't brand its meridian torque until a relatively high 4,500 rpm.

To go V-half dozen-level functioning in the Fusion, go straight for the ii.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-4; with its 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, it'southward quick to rev, and the automatic's shifts click quickly via paddle controls. It's also remarkably vibration-free and placidity.

A 181-hp, 1.5-liter turbo iv is probably the best operation vs. toll compromise for virtually buyers—although information technology's not offered with a manual transmission.

All-wheel drive availability has been expanded this year to the all-bike-drive SE, and there'southward an option to add summertime-only performance rubber. Fifty-fifty in its heaviest class, at nearly 3,700 pounds, the Fusion drives light, with well-tuned steering and a taut yet absorptive feel. It corners in a flat, reassuring fashion that really isn't to the detriment of ride quality; and overall, at that place's a nimble, eager feeling that's missing from most mid-size sedans.

With its front struts and rear multi-link suspension, the Fusion is firm and composed, and never forgets that it's a family sedan first. Information technology's definitely not stuff for strong's sake, and there's more compliance here than in some rivals, yet not equally much as the Altima.

Steering in the Fusion isn't perfect, but information technology'southward consequent in forcefulness and experience. There'southward not much feedback when unwinding the wheel, and the ratio could be quicker, merely it feels sportier than what you're going to find in other affordable mid-size sedans. Although keep in mind that the base xvi-inch and optional 19-inch wheels at the bottom and superlative of the lineup will probable be more compromised for ride and handling.

Review continues below

The sexy roofline still leaves room for alpine passengers in back; merely skip the sunroof.

From a comfort and usability standpoint, the 2016 Ford Fusion checks all the boxes, and there are no deal-breakers inside. And despite that somewhat curvaceous outside appearance, it's has one of the more spacious interiors in its grade.

The Fusion is a big sedan, at nearly 192 inches long and riding on a 112.2-inch wheelbase, but it's essentially in the middle of the "new norm" for U.S. mid-size sedans. Its interior volume of 118.8 cubic anxiety is just a cube or and so shy of the the fed'south full-size hurdle; trunk space of 16 cubic feet is good, likewise.

Against whatsoever of the contest, the Fusion does a dandy job balancing betwixt front and back seat space—thank you in part to thinner front seats. Both power and transmission seats are comfortable, though on the transmission seats there'southward a little likewise much front-cease tilt to the bottom cushion for our tastes.

Despite the curvy contour, tall doors make entry and exit easy, as practice rather high seat cushions. In back, as with the Nissan Altima and Volkswagen Passat, 6-footers will brand contact with the headliner, although if you omit the sunroof y'all should exist okay.

With the exception of the scratch-prone piano black trim, the Fusions panels and materials experience well fitted and well chosen. The base material upholstery is comfortable but definitely has an inexpensive look, relieved only by the leather option. Virtually all of surfaces college up, in the zone where you might touch, are soft, and switchgear operates with precision. Even the doors open and close with a satisfying vibration-free thump.

Review continues below

Prophylactic scores are quite expert for the Fusion, although the Fusion lacks the active-condom kit offered in some rival models.

The 2016 Ford Fusion has very proficient—albeit not quite acme-tier—ratings from both U.S. safety agencies, every bit well as a reasonably good set of standard features and safety options.

The Fusion earns five-star overall ratings from the federal regime, with a four-star rating for side crash protection. And from the IIHS, it manages top "Expert" ratings in all crash categories except the small-scale overlap frontal category where it earned an "Acceptable" rating.

In the top Titanium model you can add a package to go lane-departure alarm and a lane-keeping organization that nudges the car gently back on track if its forrard-facing camera detects that it's crossed the lane divider; adaptive cruise control with forward collision alert; blind-spot monitors for the side rearview mirrors, with cross-traffic alerts that make backing out of parking spots a little safer; and active park assist, which dials the car into a parallel spot while you operate the pedals. There's however no automatically braking forwards condom system, however, and that keeps the Fusion from achieving the all-time Top Safety Choice+ rating from the IIHS (information technology earns that group's "Basic" rating for front crash prevention).

All Fusion models include eight standard airbags, dual front knee airbags, agile headrests, and hands-free Bluetooth calling and sound-streaming capability. And you tin opt to go the innovative inflatable rear seatbelt system that's been offered on some of Ford's crossovers.

A rearview camera organization is now standard on all models, and rear parking sensors are an option on the SE and standard on the Titanium. Thanks to relatively slim roof pillars, visibility in the Fusion is excellent; you'll find that rearview camera useful.

The Fusion offers a lot of choice, though information technology makes a lot of sense when it's a well-equipped, exceptionally fun-to-drive $thirty,000 sedan.

Standard and Hybrid models of the 2016 Ford Fusion are offered in S, SE, and Titanium models, while plug-in Energi models tin can be had in SE or Titanium guise.

The base Fusion S has been priced a chip higher than the entry versions of some rival models; simply it includes power windows, locks, and mirrors; a CD sound system with an auxiliary jack; 16-inch alloy wheels; cloth seats; SYNC with Bluetooth sound streaming; a rearview camera; a capless fuel filler; tilt/telescoping steering; cruise control; and steering-wheel controls for audio and phone.

The Fusion SE adds standard satellite radio; two more than speakers (for a total of half dozen); a 6-way power driver seat; and 17-inch wheels. You can option upward to the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (or the new one.5-liter EcoBoost).

Other options on the SE include upgraded eighteen-inch wheels; a spoiler; a sunroof; retention seats; front end heated seats; premium material or leather upholstery; a navigation system; the upgraded Sync organization; remote commencement; automatic stop/beginning; reverse parking sensors; active park assist; and safety tech such as blind-spot monitors, lane-departure warnings and lane-keeping assistance.

At the pinnacle of the lineup is the Fusion Titanium, which comes with the 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 standard and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. It has near all of the to a higher place equipment standard—including parking sensors; rearview camera; a Sony audio organization; MyFord Touch; power front seats; Hd Radio; keyless ignition; automatic climate control; xviii-inch wheels; aluminum interior trim; and remote start.

You tin add a functioning bundle with summertime-but tires, available on the SE and Titanium models. And cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel are optional on the Titanium. For 2016 there's a new S Appearance Parcel that lets you apparel up the base of operations model with eighteen-inch blend painted Ebony black wheels, forepart fog lamps, and a rear spoiler. Additionally, a new Cold Atmospheric condition package brings remote start, heated cloth seats, and flooring mats to the SE.

The 2016 Fusion is almost like a premium-brand vehicle in that you tin can add together a rather conservative number of items, including the moonroof, navigation, upgraded wheels, and the safety-tech items and end upwards with a sticker toll around $40,000. That said, we remember the Fusion is at its best value in SE trim, where you lot can end upwardly with a reasonably well-equipped model for closer to $xxx,000.

Review continues beneath

The 2016 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid is the fuel efficiency champ of the lineup.

The 2016 Ford Fusion is a lilliputian more fuel-efficient than other mid-size sedans. Part of that is because you lot won't find a V-6 engine in the lineup; but the ultra-efficient Fusion Hybrid and plug-in "Energi" models are the ones to head to if fuel efficiency is your biggest priority.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid earns ratings of 44 mpg metropolis, 41 mpg highway, 42 mpg combined, according to the EPA. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid Fusion Energi models return 88 miles per gallon equivalent, or 38 mpg combined, and tin can continue electrical power but 20 miles.

A 2.five-liter inline-4 is the base of operations powerplant for the Fusion S and SE. It'southward paired with a six-speed automatic, and generates fuel economy figures of 22 mpg city, 34 highway, 26 combined, co-ordinate to the EPA.

Yous'll probably practise quite a bit better in real-world driving with the 1.5-liter turbo-4, as well paired with an automated. Gas mileage is rated at 24/36/28 mpg—or 25/37/29 mpg when equipped with engine stop-get-go.

A ii.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with direct injection is standard on the Titanium. Information technology's the operation option of the lineup, but hardly thirsty. Teamed to a 6-speed automatic and front- or all-wheel drive, it earns 22/33/26 mpg when front drive; 22/31/25 mpg with all-cycle bulldoze.

I got this as a charter return with 3,500 kms. on it - basically brand new. It'due south fully loaded with everything but the cooled seats, pretty well everything is vocalisation-controlled, from setting the duel-zone temperature to finding an address thru the nav system to searching for an artist or specific song on your phone, USB, etc. The sony sound system is hands down the best stock system I've e'er had. With the custom set key fobs, push the button to unlock and the seats and mirrors move to your preference, get upwardly to the door and it automatically opens and sets everything according to the flim-flam yous take, I'm 5'- 4", my husband is 6', no longer pinning him between the steering wheel and seat. The review says everything and they are spot on. It'due south got just over fifty,000 kms on it at present and the only problem I've had was a faulty rear traffic alert sensor - piece of cake fix. Driving information technology with 240+ hp, the last matter you lot feel is you are driving a big automobile, with the power, all-wheel bulldoze and the low profile of the automobile it feels like a sports car, more than enough power and pickup to satisfy pretty well anybody. I don't like to proceed a vehicle must past the warranty only I have no reservations about keeping this car, I absoulutely love it and would reccommend to anyone. Best Ford I've ever endemic or driven. + More »

I first bought this motorcar in Vancouver, BC, where gas at $1.50/litre is the average. This car filled up for 80 bucks and would Hands get vii.6l/100km urban center, 8.0l if I had fun with it. The 2.0l ecoboost is an incredible engine that sounds expert and drives amazing.

The leather seats are the second to none, comfiest seats and very adaptable. I'm 6'two and have loads of room, even in the dorsum seat.

I carry my mount bike and two suit cases in my motorcar with out issue.

The principal screen is besides really large and clear.

My only concerns are the layout of the big screen, I did enjoy contrivance's layout improve and you'll notice yous take to Printing the screen fairly hard. You go used to it.
They could have also done a dissimilar button layout for climate control, just this is all personal preference and doesn't lower the value of this automobile whatsoever.

Information technology does change from 2nd to 3rd fairly rough, but after 50k and subsequently having had the transmission looked at twice, it is not an upshot and shouldn't be worried about.

None the less, this automobile is incredible, sporty and fuel efficient.
Perfect all effectually motorcar.

Purchased the 2016 due south sedan with a great rebate totaling 4500, bring a new sedan price closer to certified used cars. The interior is amazing for a base model, soft plastics and fit were above by hard plastic from early Ford models. Cloth seats are comfortable, but look slighty cheap. Rear room is great and fit my large frame with little consequence. Only gripes are the following, base of operations ii.5L is slighty indomitable and feels underpower in some situations. Either ecoboost engine cure this every bit I love my ane.half dozen in my transit connect. Steering feels a bit numb at times, but believe this is due to electric power steering in full general. And the greatest gripe is Sync system. Sorry Ford, missed the mark on this. It is non as piece of cake as other companies and at times can exist finicky. All my Fords accept this issue. Some might make it a deal breaker, only personally information technology a nuisance that I tin can conform to. Otherwise Ford has a winner in the Fusion, not perfect but still a not bad car. Value is stressed with the features that come in the South model, bluetooth, disc brakes, aluminum wheels on base of operations model, slap-up ride and arable storage include a big trunk. To sum it up dandy visual sedan with value making it a top contender for family mid size sedan. + More than »
